Why is your copywriting quote so high?

Do you wonder why there’s such a range of prices for copywriting? Do you think some are way too high?

You may be right in some cases but there’s normally a good reason for high prices.

Here I explain why a good copywriter will not be cheap and why you can afford to invest more than you think.


Fact: A good copywriter will not be cheap

A good copywriter tailors their service to you.

They will always put you and your business needs first and keep you in the loop with ongoing collaboration. They will get to know you and your business inside out so that your copy will accurately portray your business and attract the customers you want.

But copywriting is often a lengthy process. It’s not just a matter of writing some nice words to fill space in your brochure. Or about creating text simply to pad out your website.


Copywriting has a purpose: to help your business succeed.

So it must be of the highest quality alongside your imagery not as an afterthought. Inevitably this copy will cost more because it takes time to produce.

You get what you pay for

But if you do want any old words you may as well go to a content mill. As the name suggests, you’ll get your text rolled out quickly, but will it be any good? Generally their copywriters are paid a pittance and are encouraged to do each job fast. So can they spend the time needed to understand you and your business properly? Will they research well enough to know the ins and outs of your target market? And if they do what the heck are they doing working for such low pay?!

In this world you get what you pay for. If you just want fluff to fill some space then go for the cheapo service. If you want your business to succeed invest in it.


What if I can’t afford a copywriter?

There may be times when you are struggling for funds. Perhaps you’re a start-up business or you need to hold off until that bank loan comes through.

But if your funds are low a good copywriter will help you increase them. Sit around doing nothing and your business will stagnate. But think of the growth you’ll see because you’ve invested in an expert’s help.

To decide whether it’s worth hiring a copywriter think of the value they can bring to your business. If you are quoted £450 for your website text, how many new customers will you need to cover the cost of hiring the copywriter that got you the business in the first place? And how many customers would it take for you to make a profit?


So why is your copywriting quote so high?

As with any service you get what you pay for. If it looks too good to be true, it probably is. And do you really want to invest in something that won’t deliver?

A good copywriter:

  1. Puts you and your business needs first
  2. Keeps you in the loop with ongoing collaboration
  3. Gets to know you and your business inside out

So they’ll charge more.

But you will be successful and your business will grow.

    “But it’s just putting some words on a page isn’t it?”
    When potential customers start arguing about price, I often let them walk. Sometimes an expensive failure is the only way to learn.

      Ha! Probably the right thing to do sometimes. But I do like to help people understand when I can. That way their business is more likely to succeed. If they don’t want to know however… I’ll be waiting once they’ve learned
